Wow! The annual Dragon Boat Festival is just around the corner! In our curriculum, we have specially incorporated folk customs, legendary stories, and experiential activities related to the Dragon Boat Festival, guiding our children to understand this culturally significant traditional holiday. Through picture books, video appreciation, and discussions between teachers and students, we help children realize that the Dragon Boat Festival is not just a holiday to eat zongzi, but also embodies rich historical culture and life wisdom.
In our lessons, the children learned about many Dragon Boat Festival customs, such as wearing fragrant sachets, balancing eggs, dragon boat racing, washing with midday water, making zongzi, inserting calamus, and hanging mugwort, among other fun activities. They also discovered how ancient people used these customs to pray for peace and health. Additionally, we listened to fascinating folk stories together, such as the origin of Qu Yuan’s plunge into the Miluo River, the legend of the White Snake, and the tales of using calamus and mugwort to ward off evil and prevent disease, allowing children to feel the charm of traditional culture through these stories.
To make learning even more lively and enjoyable, the school has carefully planned a series of Dragon Boat Festival challenges and experiential activities. This allows children to engage actively and learn about the culture of the Dragon Boat Festival through joyful games.
