Playtime is here! Our classroom is filled with colorful building blocks, hands-on toys, and push carts, allowing children to freely choose the objects they wish to explore based on their interests. Some children sit on the floor, dedicatedly stacking blocks, arranging them, and then knocking them down to start over; others observe different shapes repeatedly, while some push their walkers, moving around the space with ease.
In this autonomous play, it may seem like the children are simply “playing,” but each reach, grasp, release, and stack is an opportunity to practice hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness. When a tower of blocks falls, figuring out how to rebuild it also contributes to their problem-solving experiences.
The children also observe how their peers play, sometimes moving closer to explore together, gradually building social experiences through natural interactions. Meanwhile, teachers are there to accompany and safeguard them, providing ample space for children to try things out.
Allowing children to decide “what they want to play and how to play” cultivates focus, autonomy, and confidence through each exploration. These seemingly ordinary moments of play are precious opportunities for learning and growth! ✨
