Part 4
Wow! The annual Dragon Boat Festival is just around the corner! In our curriculum, we have specially integrated folk customs, legendary stories, and experiential activities related to the Dragon Boat Festival, guiding the children to learn about this culturally significant traditional holiday. Through picture books, video appreciation, and discussions between teachers and students, we help children understand that the Dragon Boat Festival is not just a time for vacation and eating zongzi, but also rich in historical culture and life wisdom.
In the lessons, the children have learned about many Dragon Boat Festival customs, such as wearing fragrant sachets, balancing eggs, dragon boat racing, washing with noon water, making zongzi, inserting calamus, and hanging mugwort, among other fun activities. They also discover how ancient people used these customs to pray for peace and health. Additionally, we listened to fascinating folk stories together, such as the tale of Qu Yuan throwing himself into the Miluo River, the legend of the White Snake, and the stories of using calamus and mugwort to ward off evil and prevent illness, allowing children to feel the charm of traditional culture through storytelling.
To make learning even more lively and interesting, the school has carefully planned a series of Dragon Boat Festival challenges and experiential activities. Through hands-on participation and practical operation, children will learn about Dragon Boat culture in a joyful game setting. Let’s follow the steps of our beloved children and explore what we can do and play during the Dragon Boat Festival, experiencing the beauty and significance of traditional celebrations amidst laughter!
